What is Digify tech?
Digital Entrepreneurship has become a significant path towards enhancing youth employment across Africa. As the world continues to experience a high pace of digital transformation and its relevance in the business environment, it is now very important to upskill young people with the right skills, knowledge and professionalism to offer their skills as a service to businesses through freelancing. In Tanzania, the gig economy is gradually being embraced and it is reducing unemployment problem.
Digify-Tech Project, through the support of The UN International Trade Centre, under the #FastTrackTech Project, we provided digital capacity building training, mentorship and access to online jobs to young Tanzanians.
In the second phase of the project, there was a tremendous growth of interest by young people to gain new skills that will help them become digital entrepreneurs. This phase commenced in January 2021 and ended in April 2021, where 308 registered for the academy, 257 completed at least one course, 116 completed at least 3 courses, 82 of them created expert accounts on freelance marketplaces and 12 are already matched to jobs. These numbers have shown a consistent growing demand for digital skills to enhance employment and job creation through the gig economy.
Third cohort has commenced, and we have made it bigger and better where young people will get to learn Digital marketing, Graphics design and Content writing. Right after they complete their courses they will be registered on a fast growing freelance platform (Gigs Africa) and help them to get jobs online.
